I’m writing this through tears. This book is everything and more. I’m not one for war books, they make me desperately sad but this was a story I needed to read. It’s beauty, love, suspense and evil showed me how lucky I am. A book in my top 5 of all time.

Having Dutch parents and knowing about the atrocities that happened in WW11 made this book a truly great read.
It was very sad and I had not read a book before on the complete perspective of the conquered in a country, and of the life they were forced to live from the beginning to the end of war.
This book touched my soul for the wasted years, lives, plus memories that can never be erased from their minds and hearts in their sleeping nor waking times. Just horrific for them.
Thank you so much for a necessary read and of the appreciation for having lived a youth classed as normal, and our children and grandchildren have experienced the same.
Not everyone has been so fortunate.
